VSTERSEEDVisionX V4
NAME
vsterseed − sternum segmentation, segment the initial seed cross section.
SYNOPSISvsterseed if= cf= mf= xc= yc= zc= xl= xh= yl= yh= of=
DESCRIPTIONvsterseed determines a seed axial slice and segments the initial sternal cross section on it. The inputs are filtered CT, calcified regions (value of 1 as low possibility, value of 2 as high possibility) and a mask for the ROI. The bounds of the ROI and coordinates of the carina are also required. The output is the segmented initial seed cross section. The coordinates of the center and boundaries (left/right/anterior/posterior) of the segmentation, and its z coordinates will also be output in wish format.
First, an axial slice of the sternal body located in an intercostal space is selected as the seed slice to avoid the calcified rib cartilages. Then, the sternum cross section on seed slice is segmented by matching a rectangle model. Two score functions incorporating both intensity and geometry information are designed to have local maxima at the boundaries of the sternum. Therefore, the anterior, posterior, left and right boundaries of the cross section can be determined by searching along x-axis and y-axis directions the local maxima of the score functions.
